Polychrome Vase (#23)
Blue Corn (1921–1999)— San Ildefonso Pueblo
This is a highly innovative piece. Blue Corn has created three surfaces— mica slip at the jar’s mouth, a stone polished red slip on the neck, and white slip on the body of the pot. Blue Corn was an inventive potter, using both form and design to express new ideas. But Blue Corn’s realistic rendering of a large bug and tadpoles is atypical of her work.
