Polychrome Figurine Turkey (#75)
Eva Hisita (1914–2005)— Acoma Pueblo

Small pottery and figurines were made in the Pueblos to sell to tourists. Turkeys became a favorite of Acoma potters and because they were so popular, with potters and buyers alike, they are now considered part of the traditional Acoma pottery repertoire. Regardless that the turkey figurine was originally made to sell and that the form is not part of the original Acoma canon, these birds are well-made using only traditional clay and design aesthetics.
