Melon Jar (#35)

Helen Shupla as one of the great potters of the twentieth century. Her name is synonymous with a particular style of pottery, the melon bowl.  Shupla perfected the melon bowl shape by carefully pushing out each rib from the inside of still-wet pot with tremendous control and finesse. The lustrous polish accents the ribs, dramatically deepening their dimensions.
