Stella Shutiva (1939–1997)— Acoma Pueblo

The small repeated impressions in wet clay make this a piece of what is known as corrugated pottery. Corrugated wares were first used over one thousand years ago. Following a period of dormancy, Shutiva revived corrugated pottery in the 1970s. Acoma people have lived continuously in the same area for many thousands of years, meaning that potsherds are found everywhere. These potsherds no doubt inspired Shutiva.
