Taos Woman Baking Bread (#6)
Abeita's paintings possess a highly developed craftsmanship, painterly skills and deep admiration for Native peoples. He has included all details in this painting; it is as much a lesson in using the horno outdoor oven as a pleasure to look at. The horno oven, made either of stone or adobe bricks, is first heated with a fire. Once heated, the fire is removed from the inside of the oven and replaced with loaves of bread. A well-built oven will retain heat and cook at an even temperature.
