Fine-Line Decorated Jar with Fluted Mouth (#26)
This is a beautifully formed jar— well made and its neck height and body width well balanced. The fine line design creates a further elegance. Fine line designs are normally done freehand without benefit of a template. The potter makes a few lines marking the pot's quartets and begins painting. Fine line designs are as much about the black painted lines as the white spaces between. One must ask whether the "design" is the black or white.
