Polychrome Vase (#74)
Helen Naha (1922–1993)— Hopi-Tewa

Naha is known as Feather Woman because of the image of a feather she used for her signature on a pot's base. This polychrome vase is a departure for Feather Woman, who usually made black and white flat-shouldered jars. There are four colors on the vase, which she has meticulously controlled. A traditional potter, Feather Woman painted freehand, never using a template or pencil to outline her designs. Rather, she most likely marked the pots into quarters, found the center points and began painting.
