Polychrome Anthropomorphic Vase (#47)

Sahme is an outstanding potter, dedicated to time-honored traditional pottery materials and techniques. While some potters take short cuts to produce more quickly and to reduce the unknown calamities that can befall an art form that is start to finish dependent on a potter’s attention to detail and hands, Sahme belongs to a growing group of potters dedicated to traditional methods.. In this beautifully formed jar, she has combined symbols for water, feathers, clouds, rain, and crops to create a stylized bug design. She does not hesitate to select parts of traditional design elements and to arrange them in a most artistic and pleasing manner.
